Fort Wayne Metals Laboratory utilizes a Perkin Elmer Pyris-1 Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) for classification of our Nitinol alloys. The DSC provides a rapid method for determining the phase transformation temperature(s) by detecting changes in heat flow in the material. Chemical analysis of these alloys does not have sufficient precision to determine the shape memory or superelastic properties therefore direct measurement of the transformation temperature(s) via calorimetry is required.
