History

1970

Though Fort Wayne Metals Research Products Corporation was incorporated in 1970, our history of wire making dates back much further than that.

1985

Since 1985, Fort Wayne Metals has been guided by Scott Glaze. As Chief Executive Officer, he has carried on his father's vision for the company by maintaining a strong commitment to developing new products and solutions. For instance, we're one of just a few facilities to draw titanium wire - we even developed a proprietary process to do it. And we routinely draw advanced alloys such as Nitinol. So if your company has a special wire need, contact Fort Wayne Metals. We'll help you find a solution.

1946

The founder of our company, the late Ardelle Glaze, first got into the business of drawing wire when he established Fort Wayne Metals, Inc. in 1946. A former research scientist, Glaze put a heavy emphasis on research during his work at Fort Wayne Metals, Inc. As a result, he pioneered many new applications for stainless steel wire, such as magnetic wire for recording purposes, which was later replaced by the recording tape used today. Another invention of Fort Wayne Metals, Inc. is being used in pacemakers until the present day: Drawn Brazed Strand, a strand of silver or an alloy surrounded by several strands of stainless wire, which combines extreme tolerance to repeated flexing with superior electrical conductivity.
