Centerless Grinding Machine Operator

The Centerless Grinder position is responsible to accurately set up and operate centerless grinding machines, using the requirements set forth in production orders, in order to produce high quality materials to meet the specifications of our customers.

The essential functions of the position include:

  1. Set up tooling, grinding speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures and grinding wheels in order to meet dimension and tolerance specifications.
  2. Mount grinding wheel and regulating wheel on spindles with wrenches. Dress wheels to specifications, using dressing device
  3. Lift and position supply workpieces onto the automatic work feeding device.
  4. Start machine and observe operation, trouble shoot any problems with the material, make changes to machinery as necessary.
  5. Verify dimensions of ground workpieces for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and preset gauges. Visually inspect for straightness of the materials/bars.
  6. Change worn grinding wheels.
  7. Keep accurate records of changes made to processes and production numbers.
  8. Ensure efficient operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions and calling for maintenance for repairs beyond operator’s knowledge.

The qualifications for this position are a high school diploma or GED, experience with precision custom production work required, preferably with metal, a mechanical aptitude, an understanding of tool changes and offsets, and a knowledge of basic computer functions, at minimum. Successful candidate must also be able to read production orders, use micrometers and calipers, and perform basic mathematical operations.

The position operates in a fast paced production environment. Work hours consist of 40 hours per week. Overtime may sometimes be necessary.

This position will have some exposure to WDO and WDO 10 lv (oils), lubricating powders, hydrogen, nitrogen, industrial alcohol, and 50% diluted sulfuric acid and will stand the entire shift. This position requires routine lifting of up to a maximum of 80 pounds and substantial bending, reaching, grasping, and pulling during shift.
